What ever happened to daydreaming?
I mean sure, we all have goals to climb the corporate ladder, turn our side hustle into an empire or kill that self-deprecating voice inside of us once and for all. But where’s the vision?
Remember when you used to ride the bus on the way to school and daydream about the awesome field trip coming up, the last day of school or that one person you really wanted to kiss? Then when it happened it was more amazing than you originally imagined. What happened to the days of dreaming of our futures so strongly that we could almost literally see it?
We became adults – that’s what happened.
Reality and society took over and we followed the course, at least I did for many years. On Monday mornings, I used to say “…now back to reality” as if weekends were luxuriously rare times that I was free to live my life on my own terms.
Until one day, I took my life back because reality had failed me.
I started to daydream about the life I wanted and the universe conspired to help me achieve it.
“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it!”
– Paulo Coelho
Vision is how you turn your goals into reality. Vision is how you create the life that you secretly desire. I am living proof and have created daily habits to help me live and pursue the life I was destined to achieve.
5 Daily Habits to Clarify Your Vision
1.Clear your mind of self-doubt.
Use a clearing journal to write out all of the negative, self-deprecating thoughts in your mind. Then determine what’s true and what’s an interpretation. Declare who you will be instead of what your mind wants you to be.
2.Daydream.
Give yourself permission to zone out when the moment strikes, if only for 5 minutes. Feel it, see it and believe it.
3.Create visual reminders.
Change the background on your computer or cell phone to a message that attracts your vision for the future.
4.Talk about it.
Trust that your crazy ideas are valuable enough to be shared. Embarrassment drains an ambitious goal.
5.Find a partner.
Support comes in many forms so look for it everywhere. Get comfortable with finding and receiving support from anyone. Your load will become lighter and your dreams will become even bigger.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned throughout this journey is that the struggle is real and we are not alone in it. My mission is to bring like-minded, ambitious and dedicated dreamers together in a productive fashion, Washington, D.C. style of course.
